Margot, The Most Colorful Woman In Fort Greene

Going for a walk when you need to step away from your desk, ice cream on a summer day still under the film of SPF, stepping into a Fort Greene restaurant on their second day of service to find delectable cocktails and a team of women running the show.

These are just a few feelings I welcome any time they make an appearance, and I was able to experience the ladder of the three in New York a couple of weeks ago. While waiting for a friend for dinner at a neighboring cafe, Fradei, I stumbled into Margot for a solo drink to celebrate a successful business meeting. I was greeted by co-owner, Kip, and was led to my perch at the sleek marble bar. My bartender guided me toward the Doc Holiday, a blushing concoction made with rum blend with strawberry, red pepper, sesame, and lime. I sipped as I studied the menu, making a mental note to come hungry on my next visit.

Margot is a people-watcher, on the corner of Lafayette and S Elliott Place, she greets patrons with her bright blue facade and ceiling-to-floor windows inviting curious looks and Vitamin D. She’s a no-bullsh*t kind of gal–a small menu with bold flavors, which will change regularly because she likes to keep you on your toes. She gives you what you want, shelves lined with golden loaves of bread served with butter freshly scraped from a pale yellow heap. She operates under wonderful people, a team who connects with you across the bar, guiding drink decisions, and sharing a love for the same cities.

I came to New York in hopes of casting a new tone on my day to day, and met the color I craved in the sapphire hue of a little corner in Brooklyn. Thank you, Margot, for refreshing me. I wish you a vibrant road of service and hospitality ahead.

Current menu items I would order: Sourdough and meadow butter // Sweet potato, white asparagus, honey champagne, trout roe, and xo sauce // Celery and fennel salad, golden raisins, and breadcrumbs // Nettle cavatelli, cockles, and radicchio //
